An extract of the speech made by WEG (William Ellis green) at the launch of Paul’s childrens’ book The Invincible Bunyips at Readings bookstore in 2007.
“Paul Harvey belongs to the small band of Australian cartoonists who, it can be said, that everything they do, they not only do well but
do in a first class manner. that’s why they are so good.
Paul Harvey with his great talent and skill has done it again with his new book, the invincible Bunyips.’ There is no doubt that Paul’s success in the creative field has a lot to do with his attitude to his art.
There is one point of view that I’d like to add. In that paul should sign his full name on his cartoons, not harv. If it is good enough for great cartoonists and caricaturists like Ronald Searle, Ralph Steadman or Gerald Scarfe, David Levine or the late great Hirschfeld to sign their whole name, I’d like to see Paul sign his whole name as well in the future.
Paul Harvey from my appreciation of his work over the years, particularly in caricature, is one of our best and deserves the recognition for what I see and admire as great drawing.”
WEG. (William Ellis Green 1923 – 2008)
